Friday -The Last Day of School!

 Today we had Camp Day to celebrate the last day of school. We built a camp fire out of blocks and paper in the block area, we roasted marshmallows and ate s'mores, we played under a tarp on the carpet, and we went fishing in the sensory bin.

It was hard to say goodbye to each other, but we will all fondly remember this year of Pre-K!

  • Today Mia's dad Artutro came in to read to the Pre-K class for the last time this year. He read Naked Mole Rats Get Dressed and Crazy Hair Day because today was crazy hair day in our class! 

Morning Meeting: Talking about endings -Where will you go to kindergarten next year? Are you excited, nervous or both? How does it feel to be leaving buckle my shoe?

  • Louis: I'm going to kindergarten at France! 
  • Dylan: I'm going to the same school as Arun but i'll only see him at lunch because I'm taking mandarin. 
  • Della: I feel sad to leave. 
  • Fjola: I'm going to the school close to my house. 
  • Arun: So i'm not really going to see Dylan because he's in Chinese and I'm in Spanish. 
  • Zachary: I'm going to PS 89 with Colin. 
  • Tessa: I'm going to PS 89 too! 
  • Leo: I feel sad because I don't want to leave the kids here. My kindergarten is on the 3rd floor. 
  • Cole: I'm going to my sister's school. 
  • Charley: I'm going to Little Red. I'm sad because I'm going to miss all of my friends. 
  • David John: Sad, normal, happy. I feel sad because I'll miss Colin he's not going to be at my school. 
  • Mia: I'm going to PS 89 happy and sad because I love this school and i'm going to miss Fjola. 
  • Adlai: PS 243 I'm feeling great, I want to go right now! 
  • Pearl: PS 53 sad because I'm going to miss Chocolate Milk and all my friends. 
  • Colin: I feel good about it because it's close to my house.

  • Today we had our end of the year field day at the Pier 25 soccer field! We had 15 minute stations for soccer, an obstacle course, bag toss, parachute, jump rope, messy art, and face painting! After we had a picnic lunch! Thank you to all the parents who came to help!

Indoor Beach Day 

  • Unfortunately today we were unable to go to the waterpark due to an earlier incident in the area so we had to make the best of our beach day indoors. We filled the water table up and students splashed around in it with their bathing suits on. We also drew pictures of beaches and laid down on towels, as if we were really at the beach!

Science 

  • Making Oobleck - We mixed one part water with two parts corn starch. Oobleck has properties of a liquid and a solid. It is exciting to explore!
    • Cole: It's so sticky! 
    • Louis: It's so slimy. 
    • Cole: The more water we put on the slimier it gets, the more corn shkop we put it, the harder it gets.

  • Louis: This is a colossal squid. I need to draw its beak.
  • Pearl: This is the sun. Me and Grammy have gems on our heads!
  • Della: I made grass that moves and a rainbow.

Special Activity with Emily's Mom - Susan told the Pre-K class a story a couple months ago about a neighborhood that had a person who left his Christmas lights up all year round. One neighbor did not like it and told him to take his lights down. The other neighbors supported him by putting their Christmas lights up too. So we drew a neighborhood in the summer that is still full of beautiful lights!

  • Colin: My house has a little window and a doorbell. 
  • Louis: Mine has spikes. 
  • Dylan: You have to climb up the stairs to get to the door.
  • Fjola: It's a pretty light house with lots of lights. 
  • Tessa: This is lights coming out of the house. 
  • Zachary: Adlai connected his house to ours! 
  • Mishaan: We made a giant house. 
  • Mia: Mine is a colorful Christmas tree house! 
  • Alex: Mine has two gardens and the most Christmas lights.

  • Sharing: Students shared about their pajamas or the stuffed animal they brought to school today.

  • For Pajama Day, we played upstairs in the treehouse classroom. Students loved going in the dark room. We also played with blocks, play dough, and stamps.
  • We watched a movie in the gym on our sleeping bags during nap time!

  • We went to AT&T park. We played tag, did breathing exercises, and drew with chalk.

  • Today Louis's mom Laurence came in to celebrate Louis's Birthday. Students took turns hitting a number 5 piñata and pulling the strings of a donkey piñata. Afterwards, we sang happy birthday to Louis and had cupcakes after lunch! 

Movement 

  • Today we got new black Buckle My Shoe shirts. We put them on and walked to Washington Market Park and played on the playground. We played with Adlai's older brother, Weller, as well as some other kids who used to go to Buckle My Shoe.

  • Books: The Scare In Pennsylvania -Cole brought this book in to share and read parts of it to us during lunch! 

Morning Meeting Vacation Journal Sharing: 

  • Tessa: This is the airport and I went on the walk way. My plane kept doing things on purpose. It left without us, until we got it. This is me with a shark boogie board. I was biking and mommy biked for the first time. This is me golfing and I saw a real crocodile. This is the part I love. We collected seashells and I made friends. My favorite part was going to Zoomers on all kinds of fun rides. I also went and watched a little movie and I touched sting rays. They didn't sting. And I touched electricity. It didn't hurt. This was in the science museum. Then the Easter bunny came. That's the end. 
    • Zachary: What did electricity feel like?
    • Tessa: A little bumpy. I also touched clouds. 
    • Ines: How did water fall down?
    • Tessa: A thing was making water fall down and there was glass around it. 
    • Mishaan:  What did the cloud feel like?
    • Tessa: It felt so soft, my hand even went through it. 

Art Show 

  • Today students put final touches on our recycled art garden. They added a sun, clouds, caterpillars, dirt, a waterfall, and lights! 
    • Arun: I want to make a submarine for our pond! 
    • Mia: We need more flowers! 
  • We also recorded some nature sounds to go along with our garden.

  • Today Jay's Mom and Dad came in to celebrate Jay's birthday. First they read Don't Let the Pigeon Stay Up Late. Then we sang happy birthday to Jay and ate delicious Pokemon cake! Afterwards, students took turns hitting the Jurassic world piñata in the gym! Everyone got some candy and toy dinosaurs that fell out of the piñata. 

Morning Meeting: The school wide art show is coming up this Friday. Pre-K is working hard to finish their recycled garden. Today we asked students, what should we add to our garden? 

  • David John: Clouds! 
  • Della: I have rocks at home! 
  • Alexander: We need to add dirt. 
  • Pearl: Mint from my garden. 
  • Artemis: Water 
  • Tessa: Rocks around the outside. 
  • Charley: Bugs. 
  • Cole: I think this should be a snake or dirt. It should be dirt! 
  • Tessa: We can make a waterfall!

  • Books: Oh the Places You'll Go by Dr. Seuss. -This is a great book for us to read since students are all going to new schools next year! 

Morning Meeting Share Time: How did you feel about our graduation? 

  • Colin: I felt good that I saw my parents. 
  • Mishaan: It was more fun than I thought it was going to be! 
  • Charley: Super! Super because I love seeing my parents and my friends. 
  • Adlai: Happy and sad. I felt sad because there's no mats in the gym at kindergarten. 
  • Pearl: Nervous and happy. I felt nervous when I was saying what I want to be when I grow up . 
  • Ines: I felt happy when I saw my parents. 
  • David John: Clever, normal and happy. When  i was singing i felt happy. I felt clever when we had the party and I tried all kinds of food. 
  • Jay: When I did the grow up book I was nervous but after I went back to my seat I felt happy. 
  • Zachary: Happy, bored, and confident. I felt happy at the audotorium and I felt confident when I was singing and dancing. I felt bored at the school party. 
  • Della: I felt happy and I felt crowded at the party.

Friday - GRADUATION!

Friday - GRADUATION!

Graduation day has finally arrived! Students arrived this morning feeling nervous and confident. We decorated the table cloths for our party and reminded ourselves how to perform at graduation. The 3AB students brought us special cards and flowers that they made for the graduates. Then we put on our gowns and walked over to New York Law School. The Pre-K class did a fantastic job singing, dancing, and speaking at graduation. We look forward to watching the video from today and seeing pictures. Please send us pictures if you have them! THANK YOU to the parents and families for supporting us on this very special day!

Graduation 

  • Today we had our final graduation rehearsal in the real auditorium at New York Law School. Today students practiced with their caps and gowns on! It was our best rehearsal yet. We are all so excited for tomorrow!

  • Today was our final music class with Evan. We sang the wake up song, and then a train song. Evan showed us a grandma grandpa drum, and then he told us a story about kids graduating and feeling scared at a new school. The kids figured out that everyone had a similar feeling, and then because they all felt the same way, they could all feel better together. We made Evan a special thank you poster and gave it to him!

  • Today was our first day of rehearsal in the real auditorium at New York Law School. We were very excited to be there, and we also talked about how some students (and teachers) feel nervous to speak and perform in front of an audience. We had a great rehearsal today, and we are looking forward to graduation on Friday!

  • Today Della's Dad Fred came in for a visit. First he read I Know A Monkey and then students each enjoyed a delicious macaroon. We sang Happy Birthday to Fred because it was his birthday yesterday. We heard all the fun things they did over the weekend Thanks Fred! 

Morning Meeting Share Time -What was one thing you did over the long weekend? 

  • Zachary: I went to Kansas City over the weekend. I went to legoland and ate lunch at a place next to legoland. It had every kind of lunch. 
  • Della: It was my dad's birthday. We tried to pull him off the bed. We finally got him to wake up by putting the lights on. And then he opened his presents. 
  • Mishaan: Yesterday I saw a funny movie, Happy Feet. 
  • Ines: I went to a store, it had every kind of food.

    • Artemis: Going to the loft.

  • Today was our last French class of the year! We sang our bonjour song, and then we counted how many students were here today. Florence read a very funny book called Je Veux des Pates! (I Want Pasta!). It was about a bunny who only wanted to eat pasta. Then we said goodbye to Florence!

  • Today Colin's parents Jess and John came in to celebrate Colin's birthday. First we made strawberry lemonade. Students each had a turn blending lemons and strawberries and honey in a blender. Then we had cupcakes and our lemonade and sang happy birthday to Colin! After, students took turns hitting the baseball piñata! Everyone got some candy and toys that fell out of the piñata.

  • David John: I got a ginormous piece of fabric that was longer than this carpet. I rolled it up and I got my dad up and I found my scissors in the drawer. Then I cut the shape of a wizard's hat and I made arms and legs with tape and string. 
    • Pearl:  How did you cut it like that? 
    • David John: That shape was the pointy side and the straight part. 
    • Colin: Why can't you see the tail and arms and legs? 
    • David John: Well I can see it, I used string.

  • Arun: This is a monster that eats golden paint! 
  • Dylan: I'm making a red and golden dolphin. 
  • Jay: Race track, this is the starting line and this is the finish line. 
  • David John: I call this, "The waves of rainbow snow."
  • Leo: The green thing is the giant thing that stomps all around and makes balls with chemicals in it to stop the bad guys. 
  • Colin: It's an ocean. 
  • Della: I'll know this is mine because of the dots.

Surveys

  • Cole created a survey when he got to school. He asked his friends what their favorite flavor of medicine is: Bubble gum, cherry, berry, or grape. Bubble gum won!
  • Arun asked which flavor gum was their favorite: mint, bubble gum, bunny, or chocolate milk. Bubble gum won again!

Graduation poster collage

  • Students cut out pictures of themselves and their peers and glued them onto a large poster. During this process, we remember all of the things we have done this year!

  • Tessa: We're making a dog house for Della.

Art - Several students worked together to create one new animal. They showed it to the class after centers.

  • Charley: It's a toothless fox!
  • Louis: It's a fox polar bear! It eats all the animals. I made the spots and the stripes.
  • Arun: I made a leg.
  • Charley: I made the head and I cut it out.
  • Leo: I made the animal bones.
  • Ines: I made the legs and the tail.
  • Dylan: I made stripes on the hand pointing that way.

  • Happy Birthday Zachary! Today Zachary's Mom Bridget, Dad Scott and younger brother Huxson came in to celebrate Zachary's birthday. First Scott read Star Wars: Yoda and the Count and then students took turns hitting the Darth Vader piñata! Everyone got some candy and toys that fell out of the piñata. After, we sang happy birthday to Zachary and ate delicious Star Wars cookies! "May the 24th be with you!"

Morning Meeting Share Time- 

  • Colin: One day I was just looking around and I ate ice cream and I saw a bracelet and I wanted to buy it, so I bought the bracelet and I bought a flag on the hill. There are Indians on it from Italy. We went to a hotel for my birthday. We went to some pools and a beach. I made a friend at the beach. Even though he didn't speak English, we could still play together. 
    • Tessa: I baby sat your plant while you were away. 
    • Mishaan: What flavor ice cream did you get?
    • Colin: Mint on the last day. 
    • Zachary: Where did you get the flag?
    • Colin: On the hill. 
    • Della: Where did you see the flag?
    • Colin: Right next to the ice cream shop. 
  • Alexander: I went to England this weekend but I don't remember much of what I did. I went there for three days. I went to a soccer game and I saw my grandparents. I had a barbecue on Sunday and I went to a pub. 
    • Louis: Were you on the team that won? 
    • Alexander: No, grown ups were playing. I was a fan of the team that won. The score was 1-0.
    • Cole: One time I went to a soccer game with my dad. The team I wanted to win lost.

  • Today we had French with Florence. First we sang the bonjour song and counted the number of students we have in school today in French. Then we sang a song about a family of turtles and rats. After we sang 'If you're happy and you know it' in French.

Morning Meeting Share Time- 

  • Fjola: I went to the hospital with Daddy, Lucy, and Valdi to see mommy because she had a baby. I saw mommy at the hospital. The baby's feet were a little blue and then we took a lot of pictures. Then we went home. 
    • Artemis: Is it a boy or a girl? 
    • Fjola: It's a boy. 
    • Pearl: Why were the baby's feet blue? 
    • Fjola: Because he was just born. 
    • Tessa: What did it look like in the hospital? 
    • Fjola: He has just a little bit of hair. My daddy knows his name but I don't remember. 
    • David John: What did the baby look like?
    • Fjola: He looks like Valdi. 

Turn and Talk 

  • What was one thing you did over the weekend? 
    • Mishaan: With my nanny I went on the staten island ferry and we got cotton candy for lunch. 
    • David John: I went to the coffee shop and got a coconut muffin. 
    • Ines: I ate at the restaurant. 
    • Dylan: I got told from the toy store. 
    • Della: I saw a rehearsal. 
    • Zachary: It was my birthday party. 
    • Charley: I went to the American girl doll store. 
    • Cole: I went to Zachary's birthday party and to Sweets tribeca. 
    • Artemis: I went to the ballet place and they took a picture of me. 
    • Jay: I went to the big house. 
    • Mia: I went to a restaurant yesterday. 
    • Leo: I went to the ferry boat from New Jersey. 

 

  • Draw a picture of a game you would like to play on field day? After, create a name for the game. 
    • Cole: Jail ball -In this game you throw the ball at someone and if it hits them they sit in jail for five minutes. 
    • Leo: Chu Chu maze -Whoever chooses the right way out wins. 
    • Adlai: HopScotch - You have to jump through the loops. 
    • Dylan: If you land on a title you go straight to the cement. But if you land on the other circle you go to the jail cell. 
    • Zachary: My game is Dino Run -You pretend to be a dinosaur and if another dinosaur gets you, than you have to sit out. 
    • Louis: If you land on a square you win, if you land on a circle you lose. 
    • Ines: If you bump into a wall you freeze but if a friend touches you then you come back in the game.

  • Books: Don't Let the Pigeon Drive The Bus -Dylan brought this book in to share. 

Today we made a fruit salad. We wrote out the ingredients: 3 bananas and 1 box of strawberries. Then students cut up the strawberries and bananas, and we ate it. 

What game can we make to play at field day?

  • Alexander: Rover, rover, come over! You call a player that is wearing a color and have them run over.
  • Tessa: We could play tag with hiding and freezing.
  • Dylan: I have a game that you've never heard of. It's a ghost game. You gotta run from the ghost. It a ghost tags you, you're a ghost.
  • Zachary: Potato sack race! You can hide and someone can find you and tag you and then you have to stay there until the end of the game.
  • Mishaan: I want to play a game in the gym where someone sees you and you have to stay there for gym time.
  • Della: A person counts to 3, and then a person hides something and when the person finds the thing, you go back to the wall.
  • Louis: Animal animal guess the animal! You have to guess the right animal.
  • Arun: I made up a game called heart obstacle jadie. You're supposed to get hard obstacles and do them.

Music with Isabella

  • Today we reviewed rhythm beats (ti-ti and ta). We broke up the class into 4 groups and students worked together to figure out the rhythm to the first line of "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star." Students did a great job working together and figuring it out! The answer was: ti-ti ti-ti ti-ti ta.
